The Details

Description

The Millcreek Meander offers a paddle that differs from the Sunnyvale Saunter. Setting out from the main boat ramp at Wisemans Ferry, you venture east along the edges of the wider body of the Hawkesbury River (whereas the Sunnyvale Saunter is more of an upstream, narrow river experience).

Along the way, you’re met with open water, farms and estates, birdlife, and the occasional enthusiastic social fisherman. The river is more lively than the Saunter, and from time to time, you’ll share the open waters with skillful skiers who may entertain you with their aerial prowess. The journey is no less beautiful and brings with it inevitable laughs and lasting memories.

As you continue, your destination is the shores of the estates where—if you time it right—you’ll find a low-tide beach that emerges. Stop here to rest or simply take it all in. If you’ve arranged a picnic, now is the perfect time to enjoy it.

If you have time to spare, paddle further down the Hawkesbury through one of the wider sections adjacent to the magnificent estates—there’s little that beats this stretch. Otherwise, rest until it’s time to return to your collection point. With a short paddle across to the tiny village of Mill Creek, we’ll be waiting to collect you and return you to the Wisemans Ferry boat ramp, where you’ll be free to enjoy the rest of what Wisemans has to offer.

Visit the historic Wisemans Inn or the Heritage Valley Café, or take a leisurely wander through the picnic area and relax among the trees on the water’s edge.

Our equipment

Whilst we endeavour to cater to everyone, it's not always possible to accomodate every shape, size or need. As our fleet grows, the availability of more options will arise.

  • Our Canoes are suitable for beginners to advanced social users and the type of water you'll find yourself on. They are regarded as safe and sturdy. No canoes are enclosed.
  • All protective gear such as lifejackets meet the required Australian standards.
  • Please be aware that our kayaks are limited to 125k capacity.

Useful info

  • Although the starting point is in Wisemans, we are happy to reverse the route and start you at Mill Creek. This can accommodate the tide nicely which could make the paddle easier. With your permission, we can also take your car back to Wisemans Ferry. It's all possible.
  • Winter or Summer? Morning or afternoon? This route simply doesn't favour any. A warm coffee on a winters morning or a wallow on the shores in summer both have an appeal. It offers unique elements no matter the season or time of day.
