The Details

Description
If you’re looking for a quiet escape from the noise of everyday life, the Sunnyvale Saunter might be just what you need. It’s a gentle kayak route that winds along one of the most peaceful stretches of river near Sunnyvale, NSW—perfect for anyone who just wants to switch off and drift through nature for a while.
This isn’t a high-adrenaline adventure. There are no rapids, no big challenges—just calm water, leafy riverbanks, wide-open skies, and the sound of birds in the trees. You’ll start your paddle in either Sunnyvale or Lower Macdonald and make your way a few easy kilometers upstream, heading toward the sleepy little village of St Albans (not the destination). The river is incredibly quiet here—so quiet that sometimes all you hear is your paddle dipping into the water and the wind rustling through the gum trees.
It’s a great way to spend a slow morning or afternoon, whether you’re on your own or with a couple of friends. You don’t need any kayaking experience—just a basic level of comfort on the water and a sense of curiosity. We designed the Sunnyvale Saunter with beginners in mind, or anyone who wants to take things slow and enjoy the journey.
Birdwatchers love this stretch of river too. Keep an eye out for kingfishers, herons, and maybe even a sea eagle circling overhead. You’ll pass fields, forests, and the kind of untouched scenery that’s getting harder to find these days.
Whether you’re a local looking for a weekend breather or a visitor exploring the Hawkesbury region, the Sunnyvale Saunter is one of those hidden gems that makes you feel like time’s slowed down
